Yuko, director of Nikoniko home care, returned to Japan to learn more about soft diet in Japan. Japanese food companies committed themselves to developing the best soft diet for seniors.
What is important for a soft diet? Taste, ingredients, Appearance, how hard to chew…. Even though they crushed the fresh local ingredients, they formed again like the same meal plate.
The idea of universal food designs starts to get popular in Japan. There are four levels when we talk about chewing food. 1) easy to chew, 2)Can be chewed with gums, 3)Can be broken down with tongue, 4)Does not have to be chewed.
Yuko and Nikoniko staff got together and tried some food marked under universal design food when Yuko was back in Canada. They tasted and discussed how they can integrate the idea of a soft diet into our senior’s daily life.
